Four killed as truck hits van in Kushtia

Four people were killed and another was injured as a truck hit a van in Battoil Dakkhinpara area of Kushtia Sadar upazila on Monday (Jan 10) morning.

The deceased were identified as van driver Muktar Hossain, 50, and passengers Jasmine, 30, Rozina Khatun, 27, and Swapna Rani, 45.

Critically injured Tahmina Khatun, wife of Shariful of Baliapara village in upazila’s Alampur union, was admitted to Kushtia 250-Bed General Hospital.

Kushtia Highway Police officer-in-charge (OC) Idris Ali said the Jhenaidah-bound truck hit the rickshaw van coming from the opposite direction in front of Mandal Hotel in the area around 5:30am, leaving four people dead and one injured.

Although the killer truck was seized, the driver managed to flee, he said.

The bodies were sent to the hospital morgue for autopsy, OC Idris Ali added.
