Health Minister Zahid Maleque said some 240 people could not be traced after returning to Bangladesh recently from South Africa where new COVID-19 variant Omicron was found.
He said: “Some 240 people have returned from South Africa in the last one month. But they could not be traced anymore as they kept their cell phones switched off,” he said.
The health minister gave the information in an inter-ministerial meeting over Omicron on Tuesday.
It is very important for local representatives to ensure that the returnees are maintaining all kinds of health rules, he said.
After arriving from the Omicron-infected countries, he they have to stay in 14 days institutional quarantine, the minister added.
