A Dhaka court has deferred the verdict in the case over rape of two female university students at a birthday party in The Raintree Hotel of the capital's Banani due to the illness of the judge.
The court fixed October 27 for the verdict.
Dhaka Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal-7 acting judge Al Mamun passed the order on Tuesday (October 12).
On October 3, the tribunal fixed today (Oct 12) to deliver its judgement after the hearing the arguments of both parties had ended.
The court, at the same time, ordered to send five accused of the case including Safat Ahmed, son of Apon Jewellers' owner Dilder Ahmed, to jail cancelling their bails.
Apart from Safat Ahmed, four other accused are his friends Nayeem Ashraf and Sadman Sakif, driver Billal Hossain and bodyguard Rahmat Ali.
According to case statement, on March 28, 2017, two female students of a private university were invited to a birthday party at Hotel Raintree in Banani where there were raped several times by accused Safat Ahmed and his friend Nayeem Ashraf.
On May 6, 2017--two months after the incident--a rape case was filed against five persons with Banani Police Station.
