Five people died and two others went missing after a trawler capsized in the Turag River in Savar, on the outskirts of Dhaka, on Saturday morning.

The identities of the deceased could not be known immediately, said Lima Khanam, duty officer of Fire Service and Civil Defence Headquarters.

Fire service sources said the trawler capsized with 18 people when a sand-laden cargo vessel hit it in the river in Amin Bazar area around 8:30 am.

On information, the fire fighters rushed to the spot and started a rescue operation. Later divers of the fire service recovered five bodies of a woman and four children from the river.
