The Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) has arrested 56 people on charges of selling and consuming drugs during anti-drug operations in different areas of the capital city over the past 24 hours till 6:00 am Tuesday.
Detectives and the law enforcers jointly made the arrest and seized illegal drugs from their possession.
The DMP seized 5,747 pieces of sedative yaba tablets, 878 grams of heroin, 21.78 kilograms of cannabis, nine bottles of phensedyl and 72 cans of beer from them.
DMP's Additional Deputy Commissioner (Media and Public Relations) Iftekhairul Islam has confirmed the news.
Based on information, members of Detectives and Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) conducted a 24-hour long raid and detained the drug trades from various places, said the DMP sources, he said.
A total of 35 cases have been filed against the detained persons under the Narcotics Control Act, the DMP official added.
