Bashundhara Group distributes relief among destitute in Gaibandha

Bashundhara Group, a leading business conglomerate of the country, has brought smile to the poor and elderly people and helpless children in different upazilas of Gaibandha by distributing relief among them amid the economic hardship caused by the corona pandemic.

Kaler Kantho, one of the reputed Bengali national dailies of Bashundhara Group, provided the relief through its social organisation Shuvasangha on Wednesday.

In the morning, relief materials were distributed among insolvent people at Kamarjani Banik Girls High School in Sadar upazila of Gaibandha.

Dipjan Begum, 90, was one of the recipients of the relief. She was too old to carry the 16kg relief bag. The road towards her house is very dilapidated, so no rickshaw-puller was willing to take her to her house.

Finding no way out, Shuvasangha Director Zakaria Jaman carried the bag to her house. She cannot walk well. Zakaria held her with one hand and carried the relief bag with other hand.

After reaching home, Dipjan offered Zakaria Tk 20. “Please have a cup of tea and biscuit with Tk 20. I have no son. You have helped me to reach home. May Allah bless you,” she said.

Shilpi Akter, a fifth grader, received the relief as her father could not come. She told Shuvasangha members that her mother will be happy to see the relief.

Like Dipjan and Shilpi, representatives of 300 insolvent families received the relief on Kamarjani Banik Girls High School premises.

Speaking on the occasion, Zakaria Jaman said, “Shuvasangha has been carrying out the relief operation in various place as per the direction of Bashundhara Group Chairman Ahmed Akbar Sobhan. He is giving us all-out support in this regard.”

“We’ve already distributed relief in six northern districts. The relief operation will continue,” he added.

Meanwhile, Bashundhara Group has distributed relief among 300 families at Sadullapur Khodeza Memorial Girls' High School in Sadullapur upazila.

Attending the programme, Sadullapur upazila chairman Alhaj Shahriar Khan Biplob said, “Shuvasangha members are distributing relief with support of Bashundhara Group. The Bashundhara Group chairman is gathering information on the distressed people in the area through his workers.”

“Shuvasangha is distributing relief among the deserving people. It is a very tough job.”

In Saghata upazila, 300 families received relief from Bashundhara Group. The relief goods were distributed in Kazi Azhar Ali Govt. Model High School field.

Addressing the event, Saghata UNO Tuhin Hasan said, “Shuvasangha made a list of really vulnerable people who deserves relief. I thank Bashundhara Group for standing by the hapless people.”

Saghata OC Enayet Kabir, Associate Professor of Begum Rokeya University Tabiur Rahman, Saghata Technical School & College Prof Nawab Ali Prodhan Sazu, Kazi Azhar Ali Govt. Model High School headmaster Zashim Uddin Molla, Bonarpara Govt. College lecturer Shah Alam, Shuvasangha director Zakaria Jaman, general secretary Shamim Al Mamun, member Sharif Mahdi Ashraf Jibon were present, among others.

Relief items were also distributed among poor people in Gobindaganj of the district.
