Lockdown being strictly enforced in 7 districts

The capital is virtually disconnected from other parts of the country as seven districts have gone into lockdown today for 9 days to contain the spread of COVID-19.

Manikganj, Gazipur, Narayanganj, Munshiganj, Razbari, Madaripur and Gopalganj are under the lockdown which will continue till June 30 midnight.

Khandaker Enayetullah, secretary general of Bangladesh Transport Owners Association, confirmed that highway buses will not operate in any way.

BIWTA said launch and other waterway transports will not be navigating amid the lockdown.

Railway minister Md Nurul Islam Sujan said railway communication with the locked districts will be halted and trains will not attend the stations of the areas.

However, some passenger buses crossed the Padma river by ferry this (Tuesday) morning Paturia-Daulatdia route flouting the ban.

Sources said the buses left Dhaka for various destinations the previous night and were stranded at the ferry ghat.

Local administrations are strictly implementing the lockdown while people are more aware than before.

The government enforces lockdown in various districts one after another as it is serious about avoiding third wave of the Covid-19.
