A fire has gutted over five hundred shanties at the Sattola Bosti (slum) in Mohakhali, Dhaka on Monday.

The fire broke out around 4am in Mohakhali slum caused by illegal gas or electricity line.

Eighteen firefighting units rushed to the spot and brought the fire under control around 7am.

Fire Service and Civil Defence DG Brigadier General Md Sazzad Hossain said the fire is likely to be caused by either illegal gas or electricity line.

The slum is totally unplanned having all combustible substance, he added.

A probe committee has been formed to detect reason behind the fire.
