Country's lockdown extended till June 16

The government has extended the ongoing 'lockdown' or restriction on movement until June 16 to contain the spread of coronavirus infection countrywide.

A new gazette notification was published on Sunday in this regard.

Increasing restrictions on lockdown, a summary was prepared and that was sent to Prime Minister's Office (PMO) earlier in the day.

Sources at the cabinet division said restrictions are getting tougher on bordering districts as per the new notification.  

According to notification, all tourist destinations, resorts, community centres and recreation centers will be closed.

Besides, public gathering type programmes such as post-marriage function, birthday, picnic, party, political and religious programmes will remain halted while food shops, hotels-restaurants can trade 6:00am to 10:00pm and would be able to serve people by using half of the total seats.

The notification also says the deputy commissioners of high risk districts in terms of Covid-19 infection can take necessary measures as per the rules discussing with the technical committee concerned in order to prevent infection and all kinds of inter-district transports can carry half of the passengers of the total capacity.
