Bangladesh has reportedly detected presence of Indian variant of Covid-19 in the patients recently.
The variant was detected at Evercare Hospital in the capital, said ASM Alamgir, principal scientific officer at the Institute for Epidemiology, Disease Control and Research (IEDCR).
The number of patients with the variant was not ye confirmed, he said.
The original India variant - officially known as B.1.617 - was first detected in October. That version has now been re-characterised as three different subtypes, all with slightly different genetic mutations.
Indian variant being serious and fatal had forced Bangladesh to seal border for two weeks.
Against the backdrop, Bangladeshi visitors stranded in India are returning home on emergency grounds following terms and conditions and vice versa.
The dreaded variant might have entered Bangladesh by the cross-border movement, though restricted.
