The Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Corporation (BIWTC) authorities on early Saturday have suspended ferry services on two major river-routes, Paturia-Daulatdia and Shimulia-Banglabazar, during daytime from Saturday morning to contain spread of coronavirus infection.

However, the ferries would ply during nighttime only for carrying goods-laden vehicles, BIWTC sources said.

According to the authorities, the decision has been taken as there was a huge rush of people and vehicles leaving Dhaka and adjacent areas at the ferry jetties and on ferries ignoring health regulations amid the ongoing restrictions.
