At least six people were killed and 12 others injured in a collision between a passenger bus and a freight truck in Sherpur upazila of Bogura on early Sunday.
The incident took place on Dhaka-Bogura Highway in the College Gate area around 5:00am, said witnesses and officials of Fire Service and police.
The deceased were identified as-- bus driver Babul Saha Bagha, 55, son of late Manindranath from Gosaipara area of Sherpur municipality, Idris Ali, 48, son of Rajab Ali from Dhankundi village of Sherpur upazila, truck driver Saddam Hossain, 50, hailed from Khulna, Akhtar Hossain, 55, son of late Mithu Sheikh from Bikrampur of Munshiganj, Yasin Ali, 65, hailed from Nishindara Shahpara area of Bogura city, and his wife Shopna Begum, 60.
Sherpur Fire Service station officer Md Raton Hossain told Banglanews: "The accident occurred when a Bogura-bound bus of ‘SR Paribahan’ collided head-on with a Dhaka-bound stone-laden truck, leaving six people, including the drivers of bus and truck, dead on the spot and 12 others injured."
Sherpur Police Officer-in-Charge (OC) Shahidul Islam said the bodies have been sent to Shaheed Ziaur Rahman Medical College Hospital morgue for autopsies. The injured were admitted to Shaheed Ziaur Rahman Medical College Hospital.
