5.85km of Padma Bridge visible as 39th span installed

The 39th span of the 6.15-kilometre long Padma Bridge was installed on pillars 10 and 11 at Mawa point in Munshiganj on Friday.

With the installation of the span, 5,850 metres (Over 5.85km) of the main structure of the mega bridge has become visible. 

Dewan M Abdul Kader, executive engineer of the Padma Multipurpose Bridge, confirmed the news.

The span number '2-D' was installed on pillars 10 and 11 at the Mawa-end in Munshiganj around 12:23 pm, he said.
  
A specialised floating crane picked up the span from Mawa's Kumarbhog Construction Yard at 9:00 am on Friday and transported it to the designated poles around 9:45am, said the official.

The 38th span '1-A' was installed earlier on November 21.

The 40th span (2-E) will be installed on the Pillars 11 and 12 on December 2, and the 41st span (2-F) on the pillars 12 and 13 on December 10.

According to the Padma Bridge authorities, the 6.15km-long bridge with a total of 41 spans will become visible in December and the entire Padma Bridge will be seen by the beginning of 2021.

The Padma Bridge is the largest construction infrastructure since the independence of Bangladesh, which was initiated Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. The construction work began in December, 2014 with own fund.

The construction of the main bridge is being made by China Major Bridge Engineering Company (MBEC), a Chinese contractor Company, and the river management is being done by Sino Hydro Corporation of China.

The 6.15 km long bridge will have two segments over which road and railways will be set up.
