A woman and her three-year-old son were killed and five others were injured after a bus rammed a battery-driven auto-rickshaw in Kaliganj upazila of Lalmonirhat on Thursday morning. 

The accident took place on Lalmonirhat-Burimari road in Chowdhury intersection area of the upazila around 11:00 am.

The deceased are- Manjila Begum, 32, wife of Badiuzzaman from Shailmari village of the upazila, their son Sajedul Islam.

Kaliganj police station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Arju Mohammad Sajjad Hossain said on information a police team was sent to the accident spot. However, the bus could not be seized yet. 

According to local and police sources, auto-rickshaw driver Badiuzzaman was travelling to Kaliganj from is home with his family members. As he reached Chowdhury intersection area, a speedy bus hit the three-wheeler leaving his wife Manjila Begum dead on the spot and six others injured. 

When locals rescued them to Kaliganj upazila health complex, the duty doctor pronounced Sajedul dead on arrival. Of the remaining five injured persons, two are in critical condition and sent to Rangpur Medical College and Hospital.
