Five get life term for Brahmanbaria murder

A Brahmanbaria court on Wednesday sentenced five people to life term imprisonment for killing one Shawkat Ali over land related dispute in 2014.

Brahmanbaria District and Sessions Judge Mohammad Safiul Azam passed the order at noon. 

The convicts are- Md Shafiqur Rahman Khandaker, Md Morshed Khandaker, Md Shahed Alam Khandaker, Abdul Hai and Mubarak. All of them hailing from Fakirpara area of Sarail upazila.

Of them, Morshed and Mubarak are absconding.

The court also sentenced three others- Helim Mia, Abul Badsha, and Mamun Mia- to one year in jail. Of them, Abul Badsha is on the run. 

According to case statements, Shawkat Ali was murdered by the convicts in Jahangirpara village under Sarail upazila of Brahmanbaria on August 13, 2014 over land related dispute. 

Later victim's brother Abdul Baten filed a case with Sarail police station accusing nine people of murder. 

One of the accused, Abul Kashem, died during the trial and his name was dropped from the chargesheet.
