Bangladesh Economic Zones Authority (BEZA) Executive Chairman Paban Chowdhury has presented a book on Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Shilpa Nagar to Bashundhara Group Chairman Ahmed Akbar Sobhan.
Paban Chowdhury handed the publication as Bashundhara Group Chairman visited the organisation’s head office in the capital on Thursday.
BEZA executive member (administration and finance) Md Harunur Rashid was also present.
Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Shilpa Nagar is named after Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.
Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Shilpa Nagar is being developed on a contiguous land of 30,000 acres of Mrisarai, Sitakundu and Sonagazi upazilas under Chattogram and Feni.
It is one of economic zones to have been initiated by Bangladesh Economic Zones Authority for promotion of the country’s industrialisation, trade and commerce.
After coming to power in 2009, Awami League government led by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina decided to establish economic zone through Public Private Partnership (PPP). The following year, the government constituted BEZA in this regard.
The government took the step to push economic activities forward, rendering Bangladesh a developed country under Vision 2041.
At least 100 public and private Special Economic Zones (SEZs) are set to be constituted across the country under the scheme which aims at attracting more FDI, diversifying export and creating employment.
BEZA consists of Governing Board, Executive Board, and a Secretariat. Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is the chair of the Governing Board.
BEZA has turned into a dynamic organisation as Paban Chowdhury is working relentlessly to materialise dreams of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and his daughter Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.
