8 get life for killing Meherpur farmer

A Meherpur court on Thursday sentenced eight accused to life imprisonment in a case filed for killing a farmer named Abu Bakar Shah in Meherpur. 

District and Sessions Judge SM Abdus Salam passed the verdict at noon.

The convicts are- Enamul Haque, Zahidul Islam, Abdul Bari, Ramzan Ali, Mohammad Ali, Sirajul Islam, Altaf Hossain, and Mintu Islam. 

The court also fined the convicts Tk 10,000 each, in default, they have to serve one more month of jail sentence.

According to case statements, on June 14, 2010, farmer Abu Bakkar Shah of Karamdi village in Gangni upazila was hacked to death with a sharp weapon in broad daylight while he was going to work in the field.
 
Later, victim's son Shahabuddin filed a murder case with Gangni police station accusing 11 people. Among the accused, two died and police pressed charges against 10 accused.
