Zia Rahman, a professor of Criminology Department in Dhaka University, has been sued under the Digital Security Act for his controversial remarks on the pronunciation of 'Assalamu Alaikum' and 'Allah Hafez'.
Muhammad Mahbub Alam, editor of the monthly Al Bayyinat and the Daily Al Ihsan, on Sunday morning filed the case with the Bangladesh Cyber Tribunal Judge Assam Jaglul Hossain.
Another lawyer Imrul Hasan also filed a case against Professor Zia Rahman under the Digital Security Act with the same court.
According to the case statement, Professor Zia, during a recent TV talk-show, said the pure Arabic pronunciation of 'Assalamu Alaikum' and 'Allah Hafez' is disgusting and the practice is associated with militancy. His comment insulted the religious sentiment of Muslims.
