Following a fruitful discussion with the government, water transport workers have withdrawn their indefinite strike to realize their 11-point demand including food allowance.
The workers' leaders withdrew the strike on Thursday afternoon after attending a meeting at the Ministry of Labour and Employment at Secretariat.
Earlier in the day, State Minister for Shipping Khalid Mahmud Chowdhury said that the ongoing strike of water transport workers will be resolved by today.
He said: "Their main demand is food allowance. There is no doubt that it is a valid demand."
Earlier on Tuesday, water transport workers begun a country-wide indefinite strike to press home their 11-point demand.
The demands include appointment letters for the workers, food allowance, health care equipment, and measures to stop extortion on the waterways.
