A Sylhet court on Tuesday placed suspended police constable Titu Chandra Das on a five-day remand in a case filed over the death of Raihan Uddin at Bandarbazar police outpost in Sylhet.
Sylhet Metropolitan Additional Chief Magistrate Ziadur Rahman passed the order after inspector of Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI) and also investigation officer of the case Mohidul Islam produced Titu before it with a seven-day remand prayer.
Earlier in the day, PBI arrested Titu from Police Lines Quarter Guard.
Earlier on Monday, three police constable of Bandarbazar outpost testified before a magistrate in connection with the death of Raihan.
On October 11, Raihan, 30, a resident of Akharia in Sylhet city, was reportedly beaten to death in police custody at the Bandar Bazar police outpost.
On October 12, Raihan’s wife Tahmina Akter Tanni filed a case at Kotwali Police Station accusing a number of unidentified people.
Later in that day, authorities suspended four policemen, including the in-charge of Bandarbazar police outpost Sub-Inspector Akbar Hossain, who has gone into hiding.
PBI is currently investigating the case at the instructions of the police headquarters. The Sylhet Metropolitan Police has handed over the documents of the case to PBI.
PBI said it is looking for suspended SI Akbar and has alerted the immigration police to prevent him from leaving the country.
