The High Court on Tuesday granted eight weeks anticipatory bail to independent lawmaker of Faridpur-4 constituency Mujibur Rahman Chowdhury alias Nixon Chowdhury in a case filed for violating the electoral code of conduct during the local polls. 

The HC bench of Justices Sheikh Md Jakir Hossain and KM Jahid Sarwar Kajol passed the order after holding his bail hearing this afternoon.

Lawyers Dr Shahdeen Malik and Monjurul Alam represented Nixon in court.

On Sunday (October 18), Nixon Chowdhury filed the petition with the HC seeking anticipatory bail in the case filed by the Election Commission.

On October 15, the Election Commission filed the case with Charbhadrasan Police Station accusing Nixon Chowdhury of violating the election code of conduct during the Charbhadrasan Upazila Parishad by-elections.

Nixon Chowdhury MP, however, in a press conference on October 13, denied the allegations against him saying the audio clip where he is heard threatening the Faridpur DC over the arrest of his supporters during the Charbhadrasan Upazila Parishad by-polls was 'super edited.'
