DSCC, ISPs, COAB agree to end underground cable work by Nov Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) Mayor Sheikh Fazle Noor Taposh

The Dhaka South City Corporation has decided to halt its drive against overhead cables till November after ISPAB and COAB agreed to place the cables underground by themselves within this time period.

The decision came a day after internet service providers and cable operators postponed their plan to shut down internet and connection of cable television for three hours every day.

The agreement was made in a tri-partite meeting among Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) Mayor Sheikh Fazle Noor Taposh, Internet Service Providers Association of Bangladesh (ISPAB) and Cable Operators Association of Bangladesh (COAB) on Sunday.

After the meeting, Mayor Taposh said: "DSCC will not continue its drive to remove overhead wires. ISPAB and COAB will lay the overhead wires underground at their expenses within November."  

ISPAB President M A Hakim said: "We will begin placing the overhead wires underground as soon as possible and hope that the process will be completed by November."

Senior leaders of ISPAB and COAB were also present at the meeting.
