Trial court asked to dispose of a 32-yr-old murder case High Court

The High Court on Wednesday directed a trial court to dispose of a case filed over the murder of Sima Mohammadi on April 26, 1988 within three months.

The bench of Justice M Enayetur Rahim and Justice Md Mostafizur Rahman passed the order after taking a report published in a daily newspaper on October 6 into cognizance.

Supreme court lawyers Ishrat Hasan and Jamiul Haque Faisal brought the report to court’s attention.

According to the newspaper report, Sima Mohammadi, 20, was stabbed to death by a youth named Mohammad Al Amin at her house in Jagannath Saha Road in Old Dhaka on April 26, 1988.

Victim’s mother Izahar Mohammadi filed a case against the youth with Lalbagh police station following the incident. Two months later on June 25, police submitted the chargesheet to court.

According to the probe report, Amin killed Sima in vengeance after failing to marry her.

Court framed charges on April 29, 2001. Even though arrest warrant was issued against the accused Al Amin, he is yet to be arrested.

The trial was pending for 32 years because of the non-appearance of the investigation officer and Dhaka Medical College’s forensic professor Anwar Hossain, who conducted victim’s post-mortem, for testimony.

The case is now under trial at Dhaka Public Safety Disturbance Crime Prevention Tribunal judge Chaman Begum Chowdhury. The trial of the case was deferred for 112 times and 11 judges were transferred during the trial.
