The High Court on Thursday ordered Green Line Paribahan to pay additional Tk 20 lakh within three months as compensation to Russel Sarker, who lost his leg as a bus of the transport group ran him over on April 28, 2018.

The High Court bench of Justice FRM Nazmul Ahasan and Justice KM Kamrul Kader passed the order.

Green Line so far paid Tk10 lakh compensation, in two instalments, of the total Tk45 lakh the company was asked to pay by the court. The company, however, paid Tk3.5 lakh for the treatment of Russel.

Russel Sarker, then a rent-a-car driver, lost his left leg under the wheel of a Green Line Paribahan bus on the slope of Mayor Mohammad Hanif Flyover in Dholaipar area of Jatrabari on Apr 28, 2018. 

On May 14, 2018, the High Court earlier issued a rule why Russel won’t be compensated with one crore taka, following a writ petition from former lawmaker Umme Kulsum Smrity.

Later High Court ordered Green Line Paribahan Ltd to compensate victim Russel with Tk 50 lakh after hearing.
