A Dhaka court on Monday granted bail to eight suspended officials and staffers of Titas Gas Transmission and Distribution Co Ltd in a case filed over the explosion in a Narayanganj mosque that claimed 33 lives so far.
Narayanganj Senior Judicial Magistrate Md Aftabuzzaman passed the order after hearing bail petitions filed by the lawyers of the accused persons.
Court police Inspector Asaduzzman confirmed the news.
He said CID police produced them before the court on completion of their two-day remand today.
Earlier on September 19, a Narayanganj court placed the eight suspended officials and staffers of Titas on a two-day remand each.
The accused are- manager of Fatullah Zone Mohammad Sirajul Islam, deputy manager Mahmudur Rahman Rabbi, and assistant engineers SM Hasan Shahriar and Manik Mia, senior supervisor Moniobur Rahman Chowdhury, senior developer Md Ayub Ali, and assistants Hanif Mia and Ismail Prodhan.
The authorities of Titas Gas suspended the officials and staffers on September 7. Later they were arrested by members of Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of police.
On September 4, 37 people were burnt in an explosion during the Isha prayers at the Baitus Salat Jame Mosque in Narayanganj. Of them, 33 people died so far while others undergoing treatment.
On September 5, Humayun Kabir, sub-inspector of Fatulla police station, filed a case over the incident accusing unnamed persons. The case was later transferred to CID.
