A driver of Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) Abdul Malek have been sued in two cases filed over possession of illegal firearms, counterfeit notes and amassing wealth through extortion.
Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) on Monday morning filed the cases with Turag police station under the Arms and the Special Powers Acts.
Turag police station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Nurul Muttakin confirmed the matter to Banglanews.
On early Sunday, a team of RAB-1 arrested Malek from Kamarpara area under Turag police station in Dhaka. A foreign pistol, a magazine, five bullets, and counterfeit notes worth Tk1.50 lakh, laptop and cellphone were seized from his possession.
During preliminary interrogation, Malek confessed to accumulating huge wealth through extortion and other illegal means, said RAB sources. Aside from having hefty savings in various accounts, he also owns lands, a dairy farm and several residential buildings in Turag and Dhanmondi areas.
