Man hacks wife, house owner among 3 to death in Narsingdi

A man reportedly stabbed three people including his wife to death in Shibpur upazila of Narsingdi on early Sunday.

Two other people were also injured in the incident that took place around 4:30 am in Kumardi village under Putia union of the upazila.

Police detained the suspect Badal Mia following the incident.

The deceased are- Nazma Akhter, 45, wife of Badal Mia, landlord Tazul Islam, 60, and her wife Manwara Begum, 50.

The injured persons are- Badal’s son Sohag, 15 and Kulsum, 23, daughter of landlord Tazul.

Police said Badal and his wife Nazma often used to engage in altercation over family matters. In the early hours of Sunday, neighbors woke up hearing loud and heated conversation between the couple. At one point Nazma started to screaming and when neighbors came to the rescue, Badal started to stab everyone with a knife indiscriminately until his son Sohag hit him in the head with a brick chip and made the unconscious. Badal’s wife and their landlord couple died in the knife attack.

Shibpur police station Officer-in-Charge (OC, Probe) Abul Kalam said: “Initially, we suspect the incident occurred due to some sort of family dispute. The perpetrator Badal Mia has been detained.”

Police have already launched an investigation to the murder incident. However, no written complaint has been filed from the victims’ families, he added.
