Train ticket sales begin at counters

Bangladesh Railway has resumed selling half of all train tickets through station counters alongside online today.

The selling of tickets began at 8:00am on Saturday at several station counters, railway sources said.

The train ticket sales remained suspended for more than five months in the wake of the coronavirus outbreak in the country in March.

However, the BR has been selling tickets online only since services resumed on May 31 in limited number after the coronavirus lockdown.

Later, train operations resumed running on different routes across the country, but tickets were only available online.

Kamalapur Railway Station manager Mohammed Masud Sarwar told Banglanews that tickets are being sold for half of the total seats to ensure physical distancing among the passengers.

As per the new rules, the authorities will sell 25 percent of the total seats online and the remaining 25 percent at the counters, he added.

The tickets will be available at the counters from 8:00am while the e-ticketing system via app, website and mobile phone will continue from 6:00am.

Unsold tickets at the counter and online quota can be issued by any means up to 120 hours before departure, BR official said.
