Attack on UNO: Ghoraghat OC withdrawn over negligence of duty

The Officer-In-Charge of Ghoraghat police station Amirul Islam has been withdrawn from his post due to negligence of duty on the night of the attack on Wahida Khanum, upazila nirbahi officer of Ghoraghat upazila in Dinajpur.

Confirming the matter, Dinajpur Superintendent of Police Anwar Hossain said the OC was attached to the Dinajpur Police Lines on Friday morning.

“Rangpur Sadar police station Inspector Azim Uddin will replace Amirul Islam as the new officer-in-charge of Ghoraghat police station,” he added.

UNO Wahida Khanam and her father Omar Ali were severely injured when they came under attack by miscreants at her official residence in Ghoraghat upazila in the early hours of September 3.

Following the attack, the duo was admitted to Rangpur Medical College Hospital (RMCH). As Wahida’s condition deteriorated Thursday morning, she was airlifted to Dhaka.

Wahida Khanam regained consciousness on Friday morning (September 4) hours after undergoing a crucial surgery, said a doctor at the National Institute of Neurosciences and Hospital.

The UNO’s condition is now stable but she is currently under observation at the hospital HDU.

Meanwhile Law enforcers arrested six persons, including prime accused Asadul, in the case filed by UNO Wahida's elder brother Farid Hossain with Ghoraghat police station.

A Dinajpur court on Sunday placed prime accused Md Asadul Haque on a seven-day remand in the case.
