Mortal remains of Liberation War hero CR Dutta arrives in Dhaka Bir Uttam Chitta Ranjan Dutta

The body of Liberation War hero Bir Uttam Chitta Ranjan Dutta, popularly known as CR Dutta, arrived in Dhaka on Monday morning from the US.

Dutta, a sector commander of the Mukti Bahini, passed away while undergoing treatment at a hospital in Florida, USA on August 25 at the age of 93.

An Emirates flight, carrying his coffin, from Florida via Dubai landed at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport after 8:40am on Monday.

Bangladesh Hindu Bouddha Christian Oikya Parishad General Secretary Advocate Rana Dash Gupta confirmed the matter to Banglanews.

Dutta’s daughter Barrister Chayanika Dutta and her husband Rony Prantis also arrived in Dhaka on the same flight. Upon arrival, Dutta’s body was taken to CMH morgue from the airport, he said. 

Meanwhile, Dutta’s son and two other daughters have left New York for Dhaka on a Qatar Airlines flight on Saturday night. They are scheduled to arrive Dhaka at 2:30 pm on Monday.

On Tuesday morning, his body will be taken from the mortuary to his Banani DOHS residence. Later, the body will be taken to Dhakeshwari National Temple where he will be given a guard of honour.

Dutta’s mortal remains will not be taken to Shaheed Minar at Dhaka University area due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

The body will be taken to Sabujbagh Borodeshwari cremation ground where he will receive a gun salute from the members of the Bangladesh Army.

Earlier, a 1001-member national citizens’ committee was formed with Major General (rtd) KM Shafiullah, one of the sector commanders during the Liberation War, as the convener and journalist Shahriar Kabir as member-secretary to pay last tributes to Bir Uttam CR Dutta in proper manner.
