DHAKA: Bangladesh urges the European Union (EU) for cancellation of GSP (duty-free market advantage) for Myanmar in a bid to keep the country under pressure on Rohingya issue, Foreign Minister Dr AK Abdul Momen says.
He said this while talking to reporters in the Foreign Ministry at secretariat on Thursday (October 31).
The Foreign Minister said during the visit to Europe, we discussed the Rohingya crisis with the leaders of different countries.
“I have told them that in order to resolve Rohingya crisis, I have recommended cancellation of the GSP facility for Myanmar to the European Union to keep the country under pressure.
Foreign Minister Dr Momen recently returned home after a tour to Germany, France, Italy, Greece and Azerbaijan.
Earlier, in response to a question at the ministry giving compensation to the families of the dead and injured in a Saudi Arabia crane accident, the minister said that Bangladesh will verify Myanmar's claim over voluntary return of some Rohingyas to Myanmar. Then we will inform you details.
