BAGERHAT: Road transport owners and workers of 21 southwestern districts gave a combined called for an indefinite strike from June 24 to press their 16-point charter of demands.

Southwestern Road Transport Owners-Workers Unity Council announced the programme from a press conference at the district press club Monday.

The demands include banning local vehicles like Nosimon, Votvoti, Autovan and illegal transport of passengers on easy-bikes, motorbikes and microbuses.

They also demanded payment of dues and compensation for requisitioned vehicles.

“Despite seeking government intervention in this regard for last two years, the situation is yet to be improved in preserving the interest of transport owners and workers of the 21 districts,” it was stated in a written statement at the news meet.

Rakibul Hasan Milon, vice-president of Bagerhat Inter-district Transport Owners Samiti, read out the statement.
