CHITTAGONG: The suspects arrested on charges of disturbing CCC election atmosphere, clashes between the activists of Awami League and BNP and arson attacks were all sent to court Sunday.

Police appealed for a seven-day remand for them. The court rejected the plea and sent them to jail.

The arrested persons are Jasim Uddin, 32, Rostam Ali, 39, Md Solaiman, 35, Nayan Moni, 22, and Faruk Mia, 29.

Opposition BNP activists staged demonstrations in front of the election information centre set up in Chittagong MA Aziz stadium to press for immediate publishing of the results on June 17 night.

They also vandalized cars and set fire to shops. At one stage, they locked into clashes with the supporters of Awami League-backed mayoral candidate ABM Mohiuddin Chowdhury. Some police personnel, including a RAB official, were injured.

Sergeant of Chittagong traffic department Hemayet Uddin filed a case with Kotoali Thana against some 800-900 anonymous persons on June 18.
