9 Bangladeshis rescued from Yemen

DHAKA: Nine more Bangladeshis have been rescued from strife-torn Yemen with the help of Indian government.

They are now on board and expected to reach Djibouti.

Councilor (political) SM Mahbub Alam of Bangladesh Embassy in Kuwait confirmed the matter to banglanews on Tuesday.

He said the Bangladesh government has started rescue mission for Bangladeshis those got stuck in Yemen.

Three Bangladeshis were rescued earlier and nine more are on board for Djibouti.

Moreover, the Bangladesh government is trying to return 45 Bangladeshis as an Indian ship expecting to leave al-Hudaydah city of Yemen on Tuesday.

Foreign ministry sources said the government has started the process to send aircrafts in Yemen’s capital Sana’a and its neighboring African country Djibouti. They are also seeking permission from the respective governments.

The flights of Biman Bangladesh Airlines are also ready to fly. Additionally, a ship might be sent from Chittagong to return the Bangladeshis.

A Bangladeshi Engineer Golam Mostafa from Sana’a told banglanews that he along with other Bangladeshis is on board of an Indian flight.

The Indian authorities said the Bangladeshis have been taken to Djibouti with the help of the officers of their foreign ministry.

Sources in Bangladesh Embassy in Kuwait said Bangladesh Coordination Committee in Djibouti has registered names of 480 Bangladeshis to rescue.
