DHAKA: Law enforcement agency personnel has been put up a multi-layer security system around the Dhaka Central Jail from Tuesday morning centering the execution of death sentence against the Jamaat assistant secretary general Kamaruzzaman.

Assistant commissioner of police of Lalbagh zone Faizur Rahman told banglanews that they deployed a large number of police in the jail area to ensure security of the area and keep people’s movement normal.

“There might be a throng of curious people in front of jail gate like yesterday over the hanging of Kamaruzzaman. This is why, law enforcers have been performing their duties in the area,” he added.

He further said plain clothed police and detective agency personnel were also deployed in the area to thwart any unwanted situation, he added.

On April 6, the Appellate Division of the Supreme Court rejected Kamaruzzaman’s review petition, filed against its verdict, upholding his death penalty for his crimes against humanity committed during War of Independence in 1971.

The four-member Appellate Division led by Chief Justice Surendra Kumar Sinha passed the review verdict Monday morning.
