DHAKA: Rafida Ahmed Banya, wife of blogger and writer Avijit Roy whom miscreants hacked to death Thursday night, was taken to Square Hospital in city early Friday.

DMCH Police Camp In-Charge Mozammel Haque told banglanews that she was taken there from Dhaka Medical College and Hospital (DMCH) for better treatment.

He further said that Banya has lost one of her thumbs.

Earlier on Thursday night, assailants indiscriminately chopped Avijit and his wife at TSC intersection of Dhaka University while they were returning from Omor Ekushey Book Fair.

The injured were rushed to DMCH where Avijit, also son of a former DU teacher Dr. Ajay Roy, succumbed to his injuries around 10:20pm.

Avijit Roy has published several books including “Abishwaser Darshan (Philosophy of Disbelief), Mohabeswe Pran O Buddhihmottar Khonje (In Search of Life and Intelligence in Universe)” and on homosexuality.

The couple, however, was living in USA and recently came to visit Bangladesh as two of his books were published in the book fair this year.
