MOULVIBAZAR: A triangular clash among the activists of Chhatra League, Chhatra Dal and Shibir on Moulvibazar Government College campus Saturday left 15 people injured.

Police, however, arrested a journalist and six Shibir activists from the campus after the clash that ensued in the afternoon over establishing supremacy.

Campus sources said workers of Islami Chhatra Shibir brought out a procession on the campus at about 1 pm welcoming admission-seekers. Tension spread in the area as rival BCL and JCD activists also brought out separate processions.

At that time, a clash broke out among the three groups of student politicos. The rioting groups chased each other and pelted brickbats, leaving 15 activists of the three organizations, student wings of the three main political parties, wounded.

The injured are Uzzal Ahmed, Rukshan Ahmed, Tapan Pal, Pappu Dev, Tushar Dev, Sohan Ahmed and Mokhlesur Rahman of BCL, Abdur Rahman and Iqbal Ahmed of Shibir and Rimon Rahman, Jubel Ahmed and Ruble Ahmed of JCD and College staff Farid Mia, 38. They all were given first aid.

College-unit Chhatra League convener Alaur Rahman Chowdhury alleged that Shibir activists first attacked their procession.

Denying the BCL allegation, District Shibir president SD Kabir held Chhatra League responsible for the attack on their “peaceful procession without provocation”.

Police, however, arrested Shafiul Alam, Editor of local weekly “Moulvibazar Samachar”, finance secretary of the district unit of Shibir Hafez Mahmudur Rahman, Khairul Islam, Samad Ahmed, Abdur Razzak, Shakil Mahmud and Emdadul Haque from the scene.

Police said they seized a ‘chapati’ and a ‘kirich’ from Shibir activists.

Claiming himself innocent, journalist Shafiul Islam said, “Police arrested me while I was performing my duty.”
