PM calls Ctg AL leaders to conflict-resolution meet

Chittagong: Prime Minister and Awami League chief Sheikh Hasina Wednesday called 15 leaders of the party, including seven local MPs, to a meeting in Dhaka to resolve the inner-conflict in the AL Chittagong unit ahead of Chittagong City Corporation polls.

The meeting will be held Friday at 11 am at her official residence, party sources here said.

Primary and Mass Education Minister Dr. Afsarul Ameen and State Minister for Environment and Forest affairs Dr. Hasan Mahmud have also been asked to join the meeting.

“The initiative has been taken to unite leaders for backing up Mayor candidate A B M Mahiuddin Chowdhury nominated by the pro-Awami League Nagarik Committee,” one source said.

The invited leaders are Awami League presidium member Ataur Rahaman Khan Kaisar, President of Chittagong City Awami League and mayor candidate A B M Mahiuddin Chowdhury, Vice-president and law maker Nurul Islam Bsc, Ishaq Mia, General Secretary Enamul Haque Danu, Organizing Secretary Rezaul karim Chowdhury, President of district Awami League (South) and law maker Akteruzzam Chowdhury Babu, General Secretary M A Salam, President of district Awami League(North) and law maker Engineer Mosarraf  Hossen, General Secretary Moslem Uddin Ahmed, former Chhatra League leader A J M Nasir Uddin Chowdhury and other four parliamentarians A B M Abul Kashem Master, A B M Fajle karim Chowdhury, M a Latif and Shamsul haque Chowdhury.

Two of them- Ishaq Mia and Rezaul Karim Chowdhury—have also submitted their nomination papers to run for the Mayor in the June 17 CCC elections.

General Secretary of the party’s Chittagong unit Enamul Haque Danu confirmed banglanews24.com.bd that personal assistant to the Prime Minister Mahabubul Haque Shakil delivered the PM’s directives separately over phone on Tuesday night. PM’s adviser H T Imam also called them.  

Organizing Secretary Rezaul Karim Chowdhury also confirmed the convening of the meeting.

“We believe the meeting with Sheikh Hasina will help unite us to work for our mayoral candidate A B M Mahiuddin Chowdhury,” said   Joint secretary of Chittagong Awami League Advocate Ibrahim Hossen Babul.
