A child was killed after being struck by a piece of iron rod that had fallen off from an under-construction elevated expressway in Mohakhali of Dhaka this (May 29) morning.

The incident took place around 9 am in front of British American Tobacco in Mohakhali.

The identity of the deceased could not be known immediately.

Pedestrians rushed the critically injured child to Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH). He died there while undergoing treatment .

Abdul Kadhir Imon, one of the pedestrians who brought the victim to the hospital, said that they saw the child lying in a pool of blood and quickly took the child to a hospital in Mohakhali. After providing initial medical care, the child was referred to DMCH. Unfortunately, the child succumbed to his injuries while undergoing treatment there.

DMCH police outpost in-charge Md Bachchu Mia also confirmed the matter.
