Muslims of some 50 villages in Chandpur began fasting on Thursday (March 23), in line with many Middle Eastern countries, including Saudi Arabia.

Sadra Darbar Sharif's Pir Zakaria Chowdhury Al-Madani of and Principal of Sadra Hamidiya Fazil Madrasa Maulana Md. Abu Bakr Siddique confirmed the matter to Banglanews this morning.

Shamim Munsi of Faridganj Upazila, a follower, said that on Wednesday night, they offered 'Taraweeh prayer' after Esha prayer at 8:30pm on Wednesday and sehri in the early hours of Thursday.

Imam Maulana Mahbubur Rahman of Tora Munsirhat Bazar Jame Masjid of Upazila gave the same information.

Shahrasti Upazila teacher Ruhul Amin said although there were no followers of this doctrine in our upazila earlier, it has increased in the last few years. They also now observe early fasting and Eid, he added.

It was learnt that countless followers of this Darbar Sharif, since 1928, have been fasting in the month of Ramadan, following the moon sighting of Saudi Arabia and Middle Eastern countries.

Besides, some other villages of Matlab North, Kachua and Shahrasti upazila observe the holy Month of Ramadan and Eid following the same way.
