Abdus Sattar Bhuiyan, independent candidate and former adviser to BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia, has secured victory in Brahmanbaria-2 by-elections.

According to unofficial results, Sattar secured 40,817 votes while his nearest rival, Jatiya Party candidate Abdul Hamid Bhasani, got 9,580 votes.

Sattar Bhuiyan was an elected lawmaker from Brahmanbaria and Cumilla as a BNP candidate for five times, including the 11th parliamentary polls held in 2018. He resigned from the BNP in early December last year.
