One killed in Nayapaltan police-BNP clash

A youth was killed and many others were injured as the police and activists of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) locked in a clash in front of the party central office at Naya Paltan in Dhaka this afternoon (Dec 7).

The identity of the youth could not be identified immediately.

According to information, he was taken to Dhaka Medical College Hospital in critical condition, where the doctor declared him dead.

DMCH Camp Police In-charge Inspector Bachchu Mia confirmed the matter.

Besides, several others are receiving treatment, Bachchu Mia said.

Meanwhile, the clash ensued between BNP men and police this afternoon after the party people started thronging there ahead of much-hyped grand rally scheduled for December 10.

As police tried to remove BNP men from there, a chase and counter chase took place between the party men and the police personnel.

Bickering has arisen out of the venue of the BNP’s upcoming rally as the government fixed Suhrawardy Udyan which is disliked by the party.

Rather, the opposition BNP is adamant to hold the rally in Nayapaltan, a place marked by vehicle and public movement.

Police deployed APC, a prison van, and additional force to tackle any untoward situation.
