CHITTAGONG: Two people were critically injured as a train hit hard a truck on an unmanned railway crossing at Oxygen gate in the city on Sunday morning.

Critically injured train driver Delwar Hossain, 55, and the unidentified truck helper were admitted to Chittagong Medical College Hospital.

Railway (East Zone) GM Nurul Amin and high officials went to the hospital to see the injured.

Railway sources said a local train rammed the iron scrap-loaded truck stationed on the crossing at about 10am, leaving the two injured.

Communications on the Chittagong-Nazirhat route remained suspended for two hours following the accident.  Rail communications resumed after the accident-ridden train and truck were removed from the railway track.

Mohammad Ali, general secretary of Railway Running Staff Workers-Employees Association, told banglanews24.com.bd, “Illegal parking on the crossing caused the accident.”

He said the train engine was badly damaged in the collision.
