Chief Election Commissioner Kazi Habibul Awal today (Nov 24) said without the sincere cooperation of the government, it may not be possible to make the election successful.

He also said: "If the parties themselves do not ensure balance, then it will not be possible to carry out the elections in a fair and credible manner even with the help of the police and the military.

The CEC was talking to reporters at the Election Commission today.

Regarding dialogues between the political parties, he said no decision was taken but that needs to happen to reach a consensus.

“You have to join the election. Competition should be done according to the rules and regulations in the election field,” the CEC said indicating the political parties. 

“What I would emphasize is that democratic elections are not possible without effective electoral competition. I will not create a balance through the police. It will be created through the competition between parties,” Kazi Habibul Awal added.
