Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) members recovered 20 gold bars weighing 2.330kg from Shalkona border area of Sharsha, Benapole on Monday (Nov 21).
According to the information, Tariqul Islam Tarek, 40, son of late Abdul Aziz of Shalkona village of Sharsha upazila, who was involved in the incident, managed to flee the scene.
The contentment of gold was seized from Shalkona border area of the upazila this afternoon, said Commander of Jessore-49 BGB Battalion Lieutenant Colonel Shahed Minhaj Siddiqui in a press release today.
Acting on a tip-off, a raid was conducted. Sensing the presence of law enforcers, the suspect fled the scene leaving his bag in the mustard field, he said.
Later, the gold bars worth Tk 2.17 crore were recovered from the bag, the official said.
The gold bars will be handed over to Sharsha police station and a case against the man involved will be lodged, he added.
