Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal today said the drug dealers opened fire on law enforcers resulting in the death of an intelligence official at Tumbru frontier at Naikkhangchhari upazila, Bandarban.

He said: "Based on intelligence agency information, members of law enforcement agencies conducted an anti-narcotic drive at Tumbru frontier at Naikkhangchhari upazila, Bandarban on Monday when an intelligence official was shot dead." 

The minister made the remarks while replying to a question of journalists at an event held at Fire Service and Civil Defence Training Complex at Mirpur here.

He said, "We are working to get details on how he (official) was hit by the bullet and which drug peddler opened fire on him." 

Kamal said the gunfight took place at the no-man's land of Tumbru border in Bandarban where several thousands of Rohingyas people live.
