Shakil murder: Two convicts held after 16 years

Members of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) arrested two fugitive convicts in the murder case of Atiqur Rahman Shakil, 14, a class seven student in Kasba area of Brahmanbaria after 16 years.

Md. Kabir Hossain, 37, and Md. Iqbal, 42, sentenced to life imprisonment, was arrested from Cumilla's Burichong area on Tuesday (Nov 8).

The captain of RAB-2 Additional DIG Md. Anwar Hossain Khan confirmed the matter to Banglanews today (Nov 9).

According to the prosecution, Kabir and Iqbal along with others took Shakil, a student of class VII, from home and killed him in Jaher Mia's paddy field on October 15 in 2006. 

Later, a case was lodged with Kasba police station in Brahmanbaria, said Additional DIG Anwar.

A charge sheet was filed against 11 accused in the court. The Chattogram Divisional Speedy Trial Tribunal sentenced one of the 11 accused to death and 10 to life imprisonment on 19 February 2009. 

Based on intelligence information, a team of RAB-2 arrested Kabir and Iqbal. During preliminary interrogation, they admitted their involvement in the murder, the official added.
