The police arrested a smuggler along with four kg of silver jewelery from the Bakchra Mor area of Satkhira bypass road on Friday (Nov 4).

The smuggler was identified as Majnu Dalal, son of Ibrahim Dalal of Kulidanga area of Sadar Upazila.

He was arrested with the jewelery this morning.

Satkhira Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Abu Jihad Fakrul Alam Khan confirmed the matter.

He said acting on a tip-off, an operation was conducted. Meanwhile, the body of Majnu Dalal, who came on a motorbike, was searched and the jewelery was recovered and arrested.

Majnu informed that the silver ornaments were smuggled from India to Satkhira. The value of the recovered silver ornaments is around Tk 4 lakh, he said. 

The accused has been handed over to the court with a case under the Special Powers Act, OC added.
