One trampled to death by elephants in Bandarban

One elderly woman was trampled to death and another two people were injured in an attack by wild elephants in Lama Upazila of Bandarban on Friday (Nov 4).

The deceased was identified as Khodeza Bibi, 65, residents of Sohrabpara in Aziznagar union under the upazila and the injured are Amir Ali, 70, and Bayati, 60, of the same area.

Md Jasim Uddin, chairman of the union parishad, said wild elephants coming from a nearby jungle entered Sohrabpara area around 8 am.

He said sensing presence of the elephants, locals started running out of panic, when trio was trampled by them,leaving a woman dead on the spot and two others critically injured.

The injured were rushed to Chakaria upazila health complex in Cox’s Bazar, the chairman said. 

Anamul Haque Bhuiyan, in-charge of Aziznagar Police Outpost confirmed the matter.

The bodies were handed over to the relatives of the victims, he added.
