DHAKA: State Minister for Disaster Management and Relief Dr Md Enamur Rahman said 18 lakh people will be taken to cyclone centers before the severe cyclonic storm ‘Bulbul’ hits by Saturday (November 9).
Already 3 lakhs have been evacuated by 12 pm. This process started from Friday night, he added.
The minister said this after a meeting of the Inter-Ministerial Disaster Management Coordination Committee at the conference room of the Ministry of Disaster Management and Relief on Saturday (November 9).
18 lakh people will be evacuated to 4,071 shelters by today. People have started shifting since Friday. The Navy, the Coast Guard, have brought back ships from the sea.
Dr Md Enamur Rahman said Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is constantly being informed of their preparation and activities. She instructed them to move all people of coastal regions to shelters 18 hours before the storm strikes.
Already coastal centers as well as cyclone shelters were given instructions to keep ready.
The directive was also issued to send 2000 packets of dry food and cash Taka 5 lakhs to each cyclone center.
The cyclonic storm ‘Bulbul’ is set to hit some time between evening and midnight of Saturday (November 9). 7 districts have been identified as risky.
